End of Term 3 and Beginning of Term 4...
Last week we started our investigations about seeds.
In pairs we had some seeds in bag.
We had to predict what they would grow into...
Then we planted them...
Now we are watching to see what they turn into!
Assembly
At the last assembly of the term we shared our Dominoes and some of the Character Descriptions we wrote for our domino characters...
Production
We also participated in our whole school production "The Amazing Race". We practiced really hard, and entertained our audience!
Well done Room 4 - you were amazing Rock Stars!
We also got a great new whiteboard reading table...
And found a duck relaxing outside our class...

Over half way through Term Three already!
We have been busy so far this term, and time has flown by! Here are some highlights from the first few weeks...
We started the term with some of the class reading a book to the class that they had practiced during their holiday challenge...Well done - a great effort!
The DISCO
What fun that was! (Batman is flying sideways in this collage!)
We had a visit to the Waikanae Library in Maori Language week to listen to a storyteller.
It was very interesting and led to us doing a week full of taniwha activities...which we shared at assembly!
We have a new programme in our class...
It means we can choose what we want to do while the teacher is working with groups. There is a range of reading, writing and maths activities that we must complete during the week. It looks something like this...
Our work habits are fascinating. Some of us do the "easy" tasks first, leaving the harder tasks to later in the week. Some of us do the reverse. And others have zoomed through our work to get it ticked off. Ms Boon has enjoyed seeing small groups of children deciding what to do and working together to complete the task.
At the end of each week there is a Gold, Silver, Bronze and Great Effort award given.
One of the tasks is spelling. We each have our own words to work on, and we can work on these in a range of different ways...
Scribble writing...
and a task linked to our focus of the week (check out the Superhero and dog letters...)
We are working on managing our time well, so that on FUN FRIDAY we have finished all the tasks we HAVE to do. A few weeks into this system and we are already reflecting and changing our work habits.
We had a Science week.
All of our activities and writing were based on Science. The school also held a Science evening...We made bubbles...
And then we made bubbles on the table...that was even "funner"!
We spent an hour making different bubble creations. From the ladybirds and caterpillars to bubble cities! We even managed bubbles inside bubbles!
We had a lamb come and visit...some of us got to feed it!
And Coby came to hang out with us in dog week...
He waited...and waited for the children to arrive...Then we had news and he listened carefully...
We got to work and he hung out on his bean bag...
And last but not least...we spent the afternoon creating him a home...
(while he obediently sat in the middle of everything watching)
When he got home...he rested!

The last few weeks of Term Two...
We did a science experiment in the sandpit...(AKA volcano!)
First we had to build a mountain...
Then we put the cup in the middle...
And filled it...with..."stuff"...
Quinn had a go...
Max had a turn...
And afterwards...we had some good questions and possible solutions...
Why did it take so long to come out?
How can we make it come out faster?
We could use a different thing in the top!
Hopefully we will get to further investigate this next term! We would like to make a mote where the "stuff" doesn't sink in (Ms Boon is not so sure that the suggestions of metal or wooden frames will work...)
We had an assembly...
Where our authors Sophie, Kupa and Jamin got certificates!
And Quinn did some awesome drumming!
Some reading groups got to share their learning...
One group performed a play...
Micah was the "Brave Little Tailor"
The Red Giant and the Green Giant had a fight (nice work Daisy and Catherine!)
And last of all the Brave Little Tailor got to marry the princess...hehe we all thought that was funny!
And another group created a treasure hunt!
First we had to hide the treasure...
We read the first clue and all thought we should go...that way...or this way...
Then we hunted...some of the clues took a loooooooooooong time to find!
Unfortunately the weather was not so good and the big kids buried the treasure VERY deep, but we managed to dig it up (with some help) before the 3pm....JUST!
Here is the team respnsible for the madness...well done!
A few rain soaked and sandy kids, but one of those days you don't forget!
